A large veterinary pet insurance company, VPI, just released an interesting study. Below are a list of the most common conditions that had claims filed for the 500,000 pets covered by their insurance. At least, I think the study is interesting. I hope you agree, and here’s why I am sharing it with you. If you find that you have to see your veterinarian for any of the reasons you see on this list, often, you may want to think about getting pet insurance if you don’t have it already. They also list the average cost to treat the condition. Note that some of the really expensive procedures are not listed. That doesn’t make them any less expensive, it simply means that they are less commonly the subject of a claim. Anyway, for all it’s worth…
TOP CANINE CONDITIONS;
1. Atopic or other allergic dermatitis (average cost: $189)
2. Otitis externa (ear infection) (average cost $150)
3. Benign skin neoplasia (average cost $339)
4. Pyoderma and/or hot spot (average cost $118)
5. Osteoarthritis (average cost $293)
6. Gastropathy (stomach upset of any form) (average cost $268)
